Democrat Josh Stein was projected to claim victory over embattled Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race, marking a key win for Democrats in a battleground state. Stein, who previously served as North Carolina’s Attorney General, campaigned on a vision of expanding healthcare, strengthening public education and investing in clean energy. Reports emerged alleging that between 2008 and 2012, Robinson made offensive comments on a website, including self-identifying as a “black Nazi” and expressing admiration for Hitler. Robinson denied these allegations, attributing them to a smear campaign. Despite his denials, the controversy may have influenced voter perceptions during the election.

The election results showed 58.8% for Stein and 37.8% for his opponent, Republican Mark Robinson according to NBC News.
Stein’s Vision for North Carolina
Stein’s campaign focused on several key areas:
- Healthcare Expansion: He advocated for expanding Medicaid to increase healthcare access for low-income residents. Aiming to reduce the number of uninsured individuals and support hospitals statewide.

Mark Robinson, the state’s Lieutenant Governor, centered his campaign on conservative principles:
- Education Reform: Robinson advocated for increased parental involvement in education, promoting school choice, and emphasizing traditional curricula.
- Economic Growth and Job Creation: He emphasized creating a business-friendly environment through tax cuts and deregulation to attract companies and spur job growth.
- Law and Order: Public safety was a central theme, with pledges to support law enforcement and implement policies aimed at reducing crime rates.
Stein’s victory suggests a shift in voter priorities toward healthcare, education, and environmental issues, indicating support for a more progressive vision for North Carolina.
