At this point, we might as well just stop paying attention to President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks and nominees because even when one of his demonstrably bad selections needs to be replaced, we can be sure said replacement will be another cookie-cutter white conservative whose only real qualification for the position they’ve been chosen for is that they’re Trump loyalists who share his white nationalist ideology.
Last month, Trump nominated Pete Hegseth for secretary of national defense despite the fact that Hegseth is a Fox News pundit who has no experience in national defense. (You see, conservatives have their own version of DEI — it’s just called “white supremacy.”) But now Trump is considering replacing Hegseth due to controversies surrounding him, including a sexual assault allegation in 2017 by a woman with whom he ultimately reached an undisclosed settlement. (I mean, Trump dumping Hegseth for that is like Elmer Fudd dumping Yosemite Sam for shooting at lovable rabbits, but whatever.)
So, with Hegseth’s secretary of defense prospects looking pretty dim, folks of the MAGA world are wondering who’s next in line, and, according to a source familiar with the process, a major contender is none other than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
*sigh* Has anyone tried unplugging America and then plugging it back in?

DeSantis is “very much in contention,” one source said.
Another told NBC News that Trump and DeSantis directly spoke about the issue.
“Trump talked to the governor and wants him to do it,” a source familiar with the conversation told NBC News on Tuesday night.
Of course, nobody should have expected that Trump would snub DeSantis just because he referred to the good governor as “Ron DeSanctimonious” throughout the time they were campaigning against each other, or because he was sharing social media posts that suggested DeSantis was a pedophile last year. That was just Trump being Trump and DeSantis has already indicated that he’s comfortable sticking his head up his MAGA messiah’s hind parts despite all of the insults he endured.
The fact is, DeSanis being nominated by Trump for anything wouldn’t be much of a surprise as they are just two peas in the same white nationalist pod. Trump spearheaded the propaganda-reliant attack on critical race theory, DEI and “wokeness,” and DeSantis has made that propaganda his entire personality and political platform. Also, neither Trump nor DeSantis seem to be able to stop neo-Nazis from marching on their behalf. (I wonder why.)
One could trouble themselves to ask what qualifications DeSantis has to lead national defense — but that’s neither here nor there. Trump and the rest of the GOP have already shown us merit doesn’t matter until Black “DEI hires” start getting jobs they don’t think we should have. For a Trump cabinet position of any kind, one only needs to be white, preferably male, demonstrably racist, and, above all, a person who is willing to abandon any semblance of integrity in order to show the big orange boss that they’re willing to bow down to him.
MAGA, amirite?
