Vice President Kamala Harris was confident in her economic plan yesterday during an interview on 60 Minutes with CBS News’ Bill Whitaker.
The two discussed her stance on numerous issues, including fracking, immigration, Medicare and more. But, Harris’ faith and conviction in her economic plan stood out most during the interview.
During the interview, Whitaker pressed Harris on her “opportunity economy” plan, saying the nonpartisan Committee for Responsible Federal Budget gave her plans an estimated $3 trillion price tag. He also questioned the vice president on how she would even get such a bill passed through Congress.
“But we’re dealing with the real world here,” said Whitaker. “How are you gonna get this through Congress?”
But Harris was confident in her plan, suggesting Congress would act because her plan is exactly what Americans need.
“When you talk quietly with a lot of folks in Congress, they know exactly what I’m talking about because their constituents know exactly what I’m talking about, said Harris. “Their constituents are those firefighters and teachers and nurses. Their constituents are middle-class, hard-working folk.”
She continued, “I am a devout public servant. You know that. I am also a capitalist. And I know the limitations of government.”
Whitaker also questioned Harris about changing stances on several policies since her time in office as vice president.
“In the last four years, I have been vice president of the United States. And I have been traveling our country. And I have been listening to folks and seeking what is possible in terms of common ground,” she replied. I believe in building consensus. We are a diverse people.”
She continued, “Geographically, regionally, in terms of where we are in our backgrounds. And what the American people do want is that we have leaders who can build consensus. Where we can figure out compromise and understand it’s not a bad thing, as long as you don’t compromise your values, to find common-sense solutions.”
Over the past few weeks, Kamala Harris has been sharing and promoting her vision for America through her “opportunity economy” plan.
Inside her proposed plan is a small business startup tax deduction from $5,000 to $50,000, $25,000 down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, and an expansion of the child tax credit to $6,000.
My plan will invest in small businesses and innovators throughout America. Please make sure you’re involved in the upcoming elections to support these initiatives and drive positive change,” said Harris on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
